Confirmed: How Rooney could line up Utd side including keeping Ronaldo & Lingard
WAYNE ROONEY may have his heart
set on the Manchester United job,
but how would he line up the Red
Devils if he were in charge?
United's all-time top scorer revealed
the only reason he went into coaching
was so he could one day be in the
Old Trafford hot seat.
Rooney is currently boss at Championship
side Derby - and snubbed an interview
at boyhood club Everton earlier this season.
He admitted: "The whole reason in
me going into management is Manchester
United. I got offered the job interview
for the Everton job.
"I want to be Manchester United manager.
I know I am not ready now but I have
to plan everything I do to make sure one
day it will happen."
But how would Rooney set up United's
misfiring stars?
Well one man sure to start is Cristiano
Ronaldo.
Rooney and CR7 spent the best part
of five years playing together between
2004 and 2009, beating Chelsea in
the Champions League final in 2008.
And with Ronaldo planning to carry
on playing until he's into his forties,
he would be likely to lead the line for
Rooney's Red Devils.
Rooney also played alongside Lingard
before he left United in 2017.
And he could be the one to help
reignite the 29-year-olds stalling career.
The only problem with that is Lingard is
out of contract at Old Trafford at
the end of the season.
Elsewhere Rooney revealed harbors
hope that Marcus Rashford will go
on to break his goalscoring record
at Manchester United, which would
involve the 24-year-old starting in his side.
Rashford has been linked with a
move away from United, but Rooney
said: "To get the record and be United's
highest goal scorer is f***ing massive.
"What I hope is that Marcus Rashford
f***ing gets his head out of his a***
and goes and breaks that record.
He is a Manchester lad."
Apart from reinstating both Lingard and
Rashford to the starting side, the spine
of Rooney's team would remain similar
to how it is now.
But one potential signing to lookout
for is 21-year-old left-back Lee Buchanan.
Buchanan plays under Rooney
at Derby, and won the club's Young
Player of the award last season.
Plus with Luke Shaw and Alex Telles failing
to nail down the starting spot, Rooney
could put his trust in youth.
Alternatively Rooney could decide
to shake things up a bit were he
handed the reigns.
Rooney also played alongside Anthony
Martial at Old Trafford, and with the
Frenchman scheduled to return from
his loan spell in the summer, Rooney
could decide to employ him as his
main man up top.
Especially if Ronaldo decides to call
it a day at United for a second time
in his career.
Another potential signing Rooney could
make from Derby is that of midfielder
Louie Sibley.
The 20-year-old is tipped for
big things, and has also been capped
at various youth levels by England.
