  Manchester United have made initial  enquiries about a possible move for  Borussia Dortmund defender Manuel  Akanji. United have been prioritising a defensive  midfielder and a striker for the summer  but talks over Swiss international Akanji  indicate Ralf Rangnick wants a new  centre back also. Defender Phil Jones is still hoping  to leave despite turning down a move to  Bordeaux last month while Eric Bailly  remains unhappy at his limited  playing time. Question marks have also been  raised by Rangnick regarding the level  of Harry Maguire's performances and an  experienced defender such as Akanji  would increase competition. The 26-year-old has 16 months left  on his contract and is valued at  £26million by Dortmund who bought  him from Basel for £15m in 2018. The German club have offered Akanji a  new contract worth around £6.7million  a year but his representatives are understood  to be pushing for closer to £8.3m in  wages, around £162,000 a week.  Manchester United have named Scott  McTominay and Bruno Fernandes in their  squad for the second leg of their  Champions League last-16 clash against  Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night. After  a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Madrid last  month, Ralf Rangnick's squad returns  to Europe with the score tied 1-1 on aggregate.  United could have an almost fully fit  squad to pick from for the vital second leg  at Old Trafford, with Fernandes set to play  despite missing Saturday's 3-2 win over  Tottenham due to a positive Covid-19 test.  Fernandes was spotted at United's Carrington  training center earlier this week, according  to the Manchester Evening News. Luke  Shaw, who missed Tottenham's triumph , was also absent.   Manchester United youngster Anthony  Elanga is happy to be sharing the dressing  room with a footballing legend like  Cristiano Ronaldo. The 19-year-old winger said that having  an experienced player around is beneficial  both on and off the field. Elanga has also  lauded Ronaldo for his personality off the  pitch. The youngster said in this regard  (via the club's official website): “It’s really good. I get into training  quite early, and I see him and  we have a chat, and we’ll speak  a lot. If we had a game the day  before, we’ll speak about the game  or training, and we also speak  about what we do in the gym."
